Now you can when you pull out the Spy Pen Digital Video Recorder in your pocket or purse and push the top button. You will start recording 1280 x 960 resolution digital color video, though we like to shrink it down to 640 x 480 for clearer video.

We posted raw video and photos below for you to download & see the quality. At full size, the video and photos are a little blurry. Shrink them down some and they look very nice. Just use the lower right corner to resize them, and they look good.

The photos are 3264 × 2448, and are blurry at that size. I like to shrink them down and they look like this, though they are no where as good as the HD Spy Pen Digital Video Recorder 720P.

The DVR Spy Pen now records in the .avi format, which pops right up on an Apple computer. We tested it on OS X 10.5.X & 10.4.X, and it shows up like a flash drive. In the DCIM folder, is a 100media folder, where the files are. Drag the files to the desktop & double click to play. Nice!

On a PC, it shows up as a removable drive, and if Windows Media Player only plays audio, you either need to update the codecs with the K-Lite codecs, or download KM Player, or VLC Media Player, and it will play any spy camera video with no problem.

Upgraded Spy Pen Digital Video Recorder Operation Instructions:

1. In order to use the Upgraded Spy Pen Digital Video Recorder, you will need to charge the video pen for 3 hours, then it's ready to use. You charge the dvr spy pen with the USB cable or the built in USB port on your computer, or the 12 V adapter.
2. To use it, press the top button lightly for 2 seconds, and you will see the blue/red light on the back side of the clip light up for a moment, then turn solid red. The DVR pen is on & ready for action in stand-by mode.
3. To start recording video, press the top button lightly for 2 seconds, and the status light will blink red. You are now recording video, and it will record until you press the top button for 1 second, or the battery dies. The status light will turn solid red again, letting you know it's in stand-by mode.
4. To switch to photograph mode, lightly press the top button for 2 seconds, and the light will turn solid blue; now you are in photograph stand-by mode. Lightly press the top button for one second, and the camera will take 3 jpg photos in a row, so hold it still. This lets you choose the best one of the three. Continue to take photos, or hold the button down again for 2 seconds to go back to video mode, or turn it off.
5. To turn it off, lightly press the top button for 4 seconds, it will blink a couple times & turn off.

If you ever have any problems and it appears "Stuck" do a hard reset. Open a small paper clip or similar sized piece of metal, or a tack, and insert it gently, straight in the hole below the status light. When you make contact, push lightly and you will reset the pen. Try turning it on and see if it starts recording video.

Setting The Time/Date On The Upgraded Spy Pen Digital Video Recorder

1. Setting the time/date is easy if you follow these simple instructions.
2. Open a text document in either notepad on a PC or text edit on a Mac. Mac users make sure you hit "Shift-Control-T" at the sime time to turn to a straight text document.
3. Enter the date like this if it was December 21, 1959, 7:30 pm. 2010.12.21 19.30.00 Y to show it, and if you want to disable the time/date, do it like this: 2010.12.21 19.30.00 N.
4. Save as time.txt to your desktop.
5. Insert the video pen into the computers USB port and open it up like a flash drive to see the contents.
6. Drag the time.txt file over to the drive and do not put it into any folders.
7. Eject the drive properly on a PC by clicking on the green arrow in the lower right corner of a PC to show "Safely Eject", then click on that, or right click on the drive icon in Mac OS and select Eject.
8. Turn on and off the pen and plug it back in the PC. If the text file is gone, it took, and if it did not, you did not type the info correctly; try again.
