The latest DVR Spy Pen offers many enhancements over the 1st generation. One is the ability to add a time & date that automatically updates, the other is the 640 x 480 video.

Buy A Spy Pen Here!

We carry high quality spy pens that have clear audio and video, none of the crap you find on eBay. Guaranteed for 1 year, audio and video is very clear.

If you have the smaller 355 x 280 video, you need to see this article to change the time/date.

To change the time & date on the 640 x 480 spy pen, you need to create a text file & put the time and date. For example,  October 1st, 2009, 5:50 pm would look like this:

2009.10.01 17:50:00

That is all that should be in the file. Save the file as time.txt on your desktop. Connect the pen to the USB port of the computer, and it will appear under removable drives. Double click to open it up.

Drag the time.txt file over to the root of the drive, and eject by clicking on the green arrow down in the tray near the lower right corner of the monitor, to safely remove your device.

Restart the pen and record videos. Your videos should show the correct time & it will automatically update the date & time in the future.

These instructions are not clear to me. First the time date stamp time appears to be wrong 2001 hours is not 1001pm. second. How does one create a text file, using what program? Save the file as timetext? Drag over to the drive and eject. Excuse my ignorance, but I have no idea what that means RSVP

In order to make this work, use your current time & date. If the day was December 30th, 2008 @ 10:01 PM, you would just make a text file that contains the characters "20081230220100," and nothing else. I'll dissect the date in a moment. Use WordPad on a PC & TextEdit on a Mac. Save it as a .txt file called time.txt. Drag that file over to the device that shows up as an extra drive. Eject the drive and it will automatically update to that time & date & automatically update itself. Here is how you figure out the time/date for you at this moment: 2008 - Year 12 - Month 30 - Day 22 - Hour in 24 hour time 01 - minutes: 1-60 00 - fraction of second, leave 00 That's it! Don't make a bid deal out of this. If I were to set it right now, it will look like this: 20090121191300 That's all you have in the .txt file. I hope this is clear enough. Contact us through the contact form above if you have any other questions.

If the time file doesn't work as described, but the file still disappears from the pen drive as it's supposed to, try putting dashes in date and colons in the time, separated by a space like this: 2008-12-30 22:01:00 Even though I have a 640x480, the date works like the 355x280 instructions. ---Excellent tip, thanks! Admin Also, check out our forum, where we can all discuss these tips, we would appreciate if you posted over there also.

Have the same problem until I realize that the folder with the recording movies needed to be empty for this to work. If you dont, it will keep getting the time from those files somehow.--- Good tip! Admin

I have a 640x480. I got the time/date changed like posted in comment#4 + empty "record"-folder, but the time.txt still disappears after recording.
