It’s quite a bit, of stuff, and you can extend its use with the three different accessory packs:

• The MicroEye CamBall Surveillance Pack, lets you connect your Camball to a wall outlet to record for hours.
• The MicroEye CamBall Sports Pack, includes interchangeable brackets and weatherproof covers so you can connect your Camball to a boat, bike, or motorcycle
• The MicroEye CamBall Vehicle Pack, lets you power your Camball if you have a hot lighter in your car, or plug-in power supply so you can power Camball all night to record the punk who is scratching your car

You can watch the Camball on a TV, or plug it into a PC. Sadly, it won’t work on a Mac unless you remove the SD card and read the videos. We highly reccomend you not play back your videos from the Camball or you will most likely get studder video. Drag the files to the desktop and play the videos back from the computer for better results.

The Camball manager software allows you to set the Camball up, thought it’s PC only.

When you are done, you can either remove the SD card, put in a SD card reader and watch on a Mac or PC, or plug in the USB cable to your Mac or PC and watch it there. The only thing you can’t do on a Mac is set it up, unless you have Parallels or other virtual machine to run Windows.

The SecureShot Micro Eyes SD Card Recording Ball Camera CamBall arises from the dead, like a zombie in a Hollywood B movie, and we were able to buy the entire lot of 30 that became available. The Camball was one of our very first products and has outsold everything else in the store since its introduction.

If you did not know, the Camball is a tiny, fully functioning, self contained mini spy camera that records to memory cards. UPDATE: On 8.23.10 we received this update:

We purchased the Camball from you and have been monitoring our lake cabin. as we believe a nasty neighbor was trespassing on our property when we were not around. Well, guess what!! The Camball caught him, driving his van, bold as you please around our U shaped driveway!! Now we have the proof. We burned it to a DVD, however, the DVD does not play in our DVD player. How can I present the evidence to the authorities? I want to press charges against this guy with the proof. We are using the computer to review our files and find the KMP player compatible with Camballs files. Any help is appreciated. Also is there anyway to zoom in on a face or person in a picture as 2 other people are utilizing our property when we are not around and are unable to see them clearly d/t distance. Camball was a success. We can not be more pleased with the little device as this guy is weird and confirmed all along what he is up to!!”

If you think the Camball is not working properly, put it in a dark closet and it will take a self test every hour to confirm its functioning properly. It’s super easy to use, we even made this YouTube video to show you.

We have tested the our fake rock hidden camera at night, and unless you are right in front of it, within an arms length, you won’t see diddly squat.

If you are right up on it, looking at it, it glows very slightly red, hardly noticeable. However, who is going to get on hands and knees and look at an innocent rock???

And that’s the way all of our SecureShot battery powered hidden camera with DVR work; we use high frequency 940NM Illuminators that are for the most part, invisible unless you are within inches. We take one of those speaker rocks you see by a pool, bondo over the hole, and spray it a granite appearance. If you live where there is no granite, just get some local mud and slather it all over this puppy, just don’t cover the camera or IR’s!!!

Everything in this covert camera is contained in the top piece, the camera, battery SD card slot, USB port, and controls. It’s not waterproof, so don’t put any coffee in it, though it gives you a spare lid, so you can carry coffee around in it, then when finished, pop on the camera top, push one button for a second, and set it down & you are video recording. How easy is that?

The camera lens is on the edge of the cap with the camera in it.

All you need to do is decide if you want HD video, or VGA video. In our tests with an 8GB micro SD card, we were able to record 2:43 minutes of video in the HD mode. We are out of 16gb and not sure if it will record longer until those chips come in. For now, it breaks up the video into 30 minute chunks, exactly 1.56GB per file, so there were 5x of those, , and a 13 minute clip that was 7 or 8GB.

UPDATE: Using a 8GB card on VGA mode, 640 x 480 @ 30 fps, we recorded 3 hours & 43 minutes of super clear video. File sizes are smaller, we fit 7x 30 minutes files that are 826MB ea, and a 13 minute clip that was 365MB. Since there is 1.81GB available, the battery gave out before we filled up the card. Final test will be with a 16GB card on HD video to see if we get that similar amount of time. I’ll post video clips on the product page.

Here are the controls.

One thing, you have to format the memory card first, you can’t just stick it in & record; nothing will show up. You hold the Format button down for 2 seconds, and with another finger, hold down the On/Off button until the blue light comes on, then release the Format button, and still holding down the On/Off button until the Red Record light starts blink, release the On/Off button. If the blue light is solid, it took, and if it blinks and goes off, its a bad memory card. We could not format one card, and we tried another and it took no problem.

So now you can leave this innocent looking coffee travel mug on your desk, or even inside your car, and for up to 3 hours, you can record video, and find the punk that is stealing from you or damaging your property.

I found out before we left earlier this week for ISC West, our industries Video Surveillance trade show, that our most popular product of all time, the Camball from Starnex is out of stock, and unless we order 3,500 units, they won’t be manufacturing them anymore. Drat!

So I am thinking when I get back, I’ll do a blog post and call it, “Ding Dong, the Camball’s Dead,” and what happens while I am gone, those Brits propel the song, “Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead,” from the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz” to the top of their music charts. They upped me! Double Drat!!

In case you have lived under a rock or a cave your whole life, its a song the Munchkins sing when the evil, oppressive Witch dies in the 1939 movie “The Wizard of Oz.”

Only now, the Brits are doing it for Margaret Thatcher, the woman who tried to save the Commonwealth from the situation Greece/Italy/Blah/Blah/Blah find themselves in with an unsustainable Nanny state that makes it more worthwhile to get government handouts, instead of getting off your lazy butt and doing something productive with yourself, not flying across Europe to cause trouble at sporting events.

The amazing part is there are people who will protest her funeral, some of them were not even born when Thatcher is in office, cursing her, because she took away their Government handouts, instead of taking an ounce of initiative, and doing something with themselves besides whining like Primrose Everdeen from the Hunger Games.

The good news is that there might be inventory of Korean versions that could be modified for the US market with just some software/firmware updates & we could see them again. Though that’s a holder breather.

That leads to another thought; I am also not sure of the future of Starnex. They had a 4 channel mobile DVR when we first started 6 years ago that was one of the few out there, and recorded to Sony memory sticks. Tons were sold to South American countries, though they only recorded @ 7.5fps, and for analog video, it looks like the people are doing the Robot, its so jerky. They don’t make that anymore.

Then, their advanced for the time pocket DVR, which had the feature to be networked on a LAN, went the way of the Dodo bird. They briefly tried a pen video recorder that never made it past R&D. They made the CCam, a 2 camera video recorder for capturing how you drive with front and back cameras and GPS logging, though that is dead also, no more will be imported & we are out.

Then they tried to join the sports camera wave, and released the iSaw, a waterproof sports camera we highlighted on our blog, and only sold one. That’s a super competitive market, and unless you have tens of thousands if not hundreds to advertise, you will get trampled in that shuffle.

So maybe the song should be, Ding Dong Starnex is Dead.

The good news is there are still lots of other choices for a small, easy to hide spy camera over here…

He got his first large order, and to pay for it, his mother mortgaged their house, sold all furniture to put in industrial sewing machines, and started his brand FuBu out of his apartment.

The best part was when he said at first, he was going to call it BuFu, By Us, For Us, though when it was revealed that is a term a gay man might use, he quickly changed it to FuBu… Anyway, since I knew he would be here, I had his book, The Brand Within, and was right at the front of the line for my chance to get my picture taken. I was so excited, as I love to meet the celebrities that speak at the events I attend.

So I get up there and hand my phone to one of the Infusionsoft staff and let her capture the moment. I go and check the photo, and here it is…

What the H???

Who taught this girl how to take a pic? That was the worst picture I had ever saw. I was starting to get upset, and tried to get another picture, so I got back in line and right in front of me they cut it off, no more pictures, the shark has to swim away. I asked, begged, and pleaded with some big guys blocking my access to getting my prized picture, and they would not budge. No matter how much I asked, it was a big fat NO, go away!

Saddened, I sulked off, dissipating any madness, and realizing my dream of getting a clear picture with a live Shark was over.

However, I remembered I saw a professional photographer right next to the girl who took the pic, and I tried to find him. For the next two days, he was as elusive as a Sasquatch in Phoenix, i just could not find the person who took the pic. I contacted Infusionsoft, and found my account rep, and asked him, where are the pictures?

He did some work, and got me in touch with Adam at Acme Photography, a commercial photographer in Phoenix who recorded the event. We dug a little, and we found the link to all the Daymond John book signing pictures here from Infusioncon 2013.
