We just received the latest version of the SecureShot Micro Eyes SD Card Recording Ball Camera CamBall, and it appears the motion detection finally works! Before the motion detection would trip at the slightst variance in brightness or darkness, and not work sometimes when a human walked by.

Now with improved circuitry, the CamBall’s motion detection works much better, and appears to make one file of just motion activation, instead of dozens of short files. We are testing the motion activation now and it’s a long cumbersome job.

Lucikly I like to just sit and hang out on this branch snatching crickets with my tongue, so I can wait for the tests to finish.

Now there are two models, SC-30 & @C-31. The big difference is that the SC-30 is geared to the action sports or youth market as a lower priced option that does not include the motion detection or audio detection. So you can’t use it for motion activated surveillance, though you can record continuous video surveillance.

They added quite a few accessories like a 2GB SD card, that can be upgraded to 8GB, a really slick holder to keep the Cam Ball from rolling away, and a sports band that connects to the CamBall holder, so you can strap it on your arm or leg while you skateboard or go for a run. It’s also got a USB thingy that will allow you to record while plugged into the computers USB port to power it, so it will record until the video is full.

Both versions now play MP3 files so you can load up your music and listen to it with the included earbuds. There are also three other accessory packs, the Vehicle Pack for recording your driving, or setting up to watch your car from Vandalism. With the optional Sports Pack accessory kit, you get a waterproof holder and a handlebar holder, allowing unlimited uses for the CamBall.

The Surveillance Pack gives you a 110V adapter and cable so you can record indoors using electricity to power the device instead of the internal battery that only gives about 80-90 minutes. And later this year, there will be a LCD screen option that you can view the video directly from the CamBall.
