If you have CCTV cameras that are working for you, you have 3 options if you need to expand:

• You can leave it alone and add more CCTV cameras, running more cable, though you can go to a video balun set up to make that easy.
• You can invest in a Hybrid DVR that will allow you to hook up analog and digital cameras.
• You can buy encoders that will convert the feed to digital, making the camera a network camera.

A hybrid DVR is a great way to transition into the digital world, as it’s still a fully functional DVR that you are use to, it will also let you expand with network cameras, which you can’t do with your current DVR.

The Business Portable Recorder is packaged in a retail box and is pretty much the same camera, though it has the silver clip, not the black one. The recording rate is now 20fps, and if you compare the video next to the video of the Updated Spy Pen, the 5 fps is not that much better, though when you hold the pen still, it’s nice & clear.

The audio is also upgraded, no more metallic noises in the back ground. Though the best part is that it works great with the PC. Windows media player has no problem with the .avi files, unlike the 3gp files that it would not open. You don’t have to download VLC Lan now to view the files.

However, for your Mac Addicts, when we plugged in our Apple, it did nothing. We can open the .avi files in Quicktime, though you can’t upload them. You have to find a PC to upload the video.

It also has a couple more accessories, namely a cool AA battery powered field charger. We have not tried it yet, though it comes with a cable to connect to the pen. It also comes with a standard camera bracket and some type of cable to turn the camera into a PC cam, though I am not sure what that means. What blows us away about the Megapixel Pocket DVR is that it not only records super clear 1280 x 1020 video at 8 frames a second, it also will take an unlimited size micro SD card, so you can record for hours and hours, depending on recharging the Li battery, which lasts about 3.5 hours per charge.

All of the videos record super clear video, though the 640 @ 2 fps is pretty jerky, though very clear. Nothing we carry will record with this quality. While it’s a little bigger and not as easily concealed, it comes with a number of brackets to mount the camera on the wall, like a regular surveillance camera, in your car to record the trip or watch at night for vandals, mount it on a bicycle or motor cycle handlebar for action movies, or put it on a neck strap and wear it like a necklace.

It does not have motion detection that we know of, so it’s limited for making your own hidden camera, as you want motion detection, or you can live with a 3.5 hour recording life.
