Hard Drive Prices To Stay High Until 2014

Sadly, Computerworld reports that hard drive prices will stay high until 2014. This is sad, and an apparent ploy to keep the prices of hard drives high, and create an artificial shortage. While Obozo can only blame Bush the punk for so long, the prices of hard drives might not ever drop to pre-Thailand flooding days.

And really, how long will they milk a little flooding down Soi Cowboy? The guess is the prices will still be 20-30% higher than before the flodding, though that’s much better than today. Hard drive prices pretty much tripled the end of last year, and now they are about double what they were.

So if you order any digital video recorder, or network video recorder, or anything with a hard drive, you are going to pay a premium, and we have to quote you on that day what the prices are because the prices on our website are not correct, we can’t honor them, and we are not going to update them every stinking day, ok??? It stinks, though what are you going to do, fly to Bangkok and recreate the Hangover 2? Please!

Hard Drive Prices Spike, Thanks Thailand!

Unless you are living under a rock, you heard that there is a large shortage of hard drives that have caused prices to almost triple due to the worst flood to hit Thailand in over fifty years. As you can see in these images, Western Digital has been hit hard by the flooding and the company has suspended production in Thailand. Obviously, it’s going to take some time for Western Digital to recover from the flood damage to its factories. Other hard drive manufacturers (such as Seagate) will also be affected as component suppliers have experienced flooding.

According to Western Digital CEO John Coyne, it will all add up to a significantly reduced supply of hard drives into 2012. CRN reports that prices on hard drives are already rising in distribution channels and companies in the industry are watching inventory closely; some distributors may be stockpiling drives rather than selling them until the situation on the ground becomes clearer. Just how the shortage will ultimately affect consumers is also up in the air and will depend on how Western Digital and its distributors allocate existing inventory.

PC makers are taking notice, however: Apple CEO Tim Cook is on the record as expecting “an overall industry shortage of disk drives” and a Dell spokesperson said the company is “working with our hard drive suppliers to address potential impact for the remainder of the year.”

GVI Security recently released their Razberi Integrated Network Video Recorder with 8 PoE Ports. And while you might be yawning over yet another network video recorder, your jaw will drop when you see what it can do.

Lets start with complete plug-n-play capabilities. Power up the Razberi, and plug your cameras directly into the back of the 8 PoE ports on the back. So you don’t need any PoE switch, nor do you have to pay 3rd party license fees!

Set up a new tour, and you can view any number of cameras at one time, one after another, in the same view, then embed the tour in an 8-16 camera view, and instead of showing just one camera, that particular one will switch between all the cameras in that view. It’s al drag & drop.

And, hook up one of their DVR’s, and you have a great hybrid system that will also pull up on their client software. Watch unlimited DVR’s and NVR’s at once, with unlimited cameras, though you can only view 16 at a time, though with the tour feature, you can easily multiply that to hundreds of cameras.

Self Contained Car Vandalism Surveillance Solutions

In Southern California, I need that as there are no shortage of aggressive drivers that hog the road. If they do something stupid like pull a gun or try to hit you, you have a DVR filming their every move..

New Video On The Wild View Outdoor Megapixel Motion Detection Camera

We posted a new video over on YouTube with our Wild View Waterproof Outdoor Megapixel Motion Detection Camera. Besides making the videos, I am enjoying picking the music we use for the intro & exit. This camera works great if you need to perform video surveillance in an area that has no electricity, or you want to watch nature.

The Wildview camera has an internal battery that will last up 3 weeks in motion detection mode if there is light movement. You can also have a 2nd battery to swap out. I always keep a 2nd battery for all my cameras, as you never know when it will die.

It has an 8 megapixel lens that produces huge pictures, in color during the day, or b/w at night. It also records video at 30fps in 320 x 240 size. The Updated DVR Spy Pen Now .AVI And 20fps At 640 x 480

Instead of our order of the Updated DVR Spy Pen in 3gp format, we got a case of the similar digital video pens called the Business Portable Recorder that record @ 20 frames a second, slightly higher than the 15 fps of the other pen, the audio is still clear, not robotic, and it records in the .avi format, not 3gp, so it works just fine with Window Media Player, however, our Apple computers don’t recognize it anymore. ;0(

The Business Portable Recorder is packaged in a retail box and is pretty much the same camera, though it has the silver clip, not the black one. The recording rate is now 20fps, and if you compare the video next to the video of the Updated Spy Pen, the 5 fps is not that much better, though when you hold the pen still, it’s nice & clear.

The audio is also upgraded, no more metallic noises in the back ground. Though the best part is that it works great with the PC. Windows media player has no problem with the .avi files, unlike the 3gp files that it would not open. You don’t have to download VLC Lan now to view the files.

However, for your Mac Addicts, when we plugged in our Apple, it did nothing. We can open the .avi files in Quicktime, though you can’t upload them. You have to find a PC to upload the video.

It also has a couple more accessories, namely a cool AA battery powered field charger. We have not tried it yet, though it comes with a cable to connect to the pen. It also comes with a standard camera bracket and some type of cable to turn the camera into a PC cam, though I am not sure what that means. It will allow you to record clear video as it turns it into a stand to hold it steady. Perfect for interviews or recording a class or lecture.
