We found a very interesting 4 camera wireless video surveillance system that uses a new 4 channel base that plugs into the USB port of your computer. The computer will record the video, and as long as it’s connected to an Internet connection, you can access the video from any computer in the world.
The coolest feature is that it allows for up to 4 images split on the screen at one time. Our VersaCam video cameras can hook up 4 cameras to a USB base also, though it only shows one camera at a time and it rotates them every 3.5 seconds. This function lets you see all the cameras at one time.
You can also quickly jump to full screen mode, or dual screen mode. The cameras are mini wireless color cameras and will give good quality video. However, if you set this up in an area with a lot of interference from other 2.4GHz devices, it will effect the reception.

In an interesting move, a Chicago, IL suburb, West Chatham, a homeowner tired of vandals destroying his property agreed to let police install video surveillance cameras at his home.

First homeowner links his surveillance cameras to city copsCharles Hill installed five surveillance cameras outside the 3,720-square-foot home he’s building in West Chatham after local kids broke $3,700 worth of architectural windows.
From now on he won’t be the only one checking the video when something bad happens on his block.
Hill has become the first private homeowner to take the city up on its unprecedented offer to connect privately owned exterior surveillance cameras to Chicago’s 911 emergency center.
It is interesting to see that 2 dozen businesses and schools have also agreed to share their video. It really didn’t go into detail if they are wired or wireless, though it talked about a fiber optic network that was encrypted.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) — Wayne and Lena Badolado moved to the deer pointe neighborhood in Southeast Orange County a year ago looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood.
It wasn’t long before Lena says things got “scary.”
“Cars were being broken into, homes were being broken into, there was gunfire, it was really bad,” Lena said.
Eventually, their home was targeted. Tires were slashed on two of their vehicles. A third vehicle, Lena’s beloved sports car got gashed. “It makes me mad, very angry” she said.
The Badolados joined the neighborhood watch, but they didn’t feel that was enough. So, they installed a surveillance system to watch their home at all times.
“I got one right here…two three and four. This one basically covers the front of my house this corner right there and the five houses in front of me,” Wayne said as he pointed out the cameras.

I read an interesting article that basically says for all the billions and billions of dollars that the UK has spent to create the worst example of Big Brother out of control police state, it does not reduce crime;

CCTV boom has failed to slash crime, say police
Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK has failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent on the new technology, a senior police officer piloting a new database has warned. Only 3% of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has more security cameras than any other country in Europe.
The warning comes from the head of the Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office (Viido) at New Scotland Yard as the force launches a series of initiatives to try to boost conviction rates using CCTV evidence.
They admit with all this technology, they don’t know what to do with it. With feeds from millions and millions of cameras, there are not enough people on earth to look at it all, so the idea of public surveillance systems decreasing crime is a myth.
However, at home or your business, a digital video surveillance system will capture the images of some punk breaking in or vandalizing your property. You won’t need to sift through tens of thousands of hours of video to find the right bit to burn onto a DVD to give to the Police.
