    CCTV Cameras Are Dead

    Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Let’s get this out right away, the CCTV camera is dead. IP Cameras have driven a stake through their heart of Analog cameras, and you no longer do we have to look at pixelated, crappy video footage. In the last decade they were great, though for most purposes, they produced totally usless video for law enforcement, and it’s hard to identify pixel man in a line up.

Can you really identify this punk? Hardly. So we got a call from an IT guy who needs help with setting up his clients 8 store locations with cameras. The need 1 or 2 cameras to record money being counted, so we suggest a dome on the ceiling with an 8mm lens to zoom right in. The client was on a budget, and we wanted to show them the quality differences between digtial network IP cameras, and stone age, analog CCTV cameras. We are going to show you why you should NEVER buy any CCTV camera kit at Costco or Walmar, because the video will be garbage, and you might as well toss your money on the BBQ and burn it to a crisp as the video for the police will be worthless.

We wanted to come up with a low cost recording solution, so we decided to quote the AverMedia EH1004H-4 4 Channel Hybrid Network Video Recorder, a great little video recorder that would accept analog and digital cameras. It’s affordable, and with the CMS software, you can access up to 16 different NVR’s, DVR’s with no additional cost, it’s got a great price, and it works with most IP cameras. It’s great for a home, or chain of small stores, or even one store. Three different versions accept four, eight, or sixteen cameras, and with the free Control center software, you can watch selected cameras from up to 16 other NVR’s. For free, it’s great.

So we hooked up one of the new Vivotek FD8136 Mini Dome Megapixel IP Camera, a mini 1 megapixel dome camera, and put on a 8mm lens, and used a SecuNext 700 line dome camera with the same 8MM lens. You tell me which one looks better, then vote in the poll.

We have sample video we will post in the next couple days; just wanted to announce the death of the analog CCTV camera. Call us @ 1-877-339-3779 and we will help you with picking the right cameras and recorders to do the job for you!

Check Out The New GeoVision GV LX4C3D1 Four Channel Compact DVR

    Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

GeoVision just released their new line of compact DVR’s that accept analog CCTV cameras, and have all the features of a GeoVision DVR when connected to the recently updated Center V2 Central Monitoring Software v8.5. The GeoVision GV LX4C3D1 Four Channel Compact DVR is a small format, 4 camera digital video recorder that will let you connect 4 of your old, or high quality new CCTV cameras, and record on up to 2TB of storage in the one bay unit.

So lets say you got a store or two with some decent cameras and a VCR or ancient DVR. Well that thing will one day break, or you can’t find, or are sick of messing with video tapes, and want to enter the 21st century of video surveillance. How easy would it be to migrate to this? How about taking the same cables that run from the cameras, and connecting them to this puppy, and you are recording to a tiny box that has a foot print smaller than a piece of paper (9.6 x 7 x 3.4 inches, 244 x 176 x 86 mm for you foreigners). It’s like installing a GeoVision DVR card in your PC and turning it into your recorder without the hassles of the PC platform.

The benefits of this is that it’s an embedded Linux O/S, NOT Windows, so it’s immune from viruses, constant annoying Windows reminders, and uses much less electricity, so you can say you are a green company saving the planet.

GeoVision has been the leader in DVR cards for years, and their GeoVision Center V2 Central Monitoring Station Software is up to version 8.5. After spending 3 days getting certified in it last month, we have developed a deeper love, almost a lust with GeoVision. Not only can you access the video from up to 500 DVR’s from all over the world, you can view the live images from up to 800 cameras.

However, that don’t mean squat if you got 2-3 stores and just want to keep a handle on them. The free version lets you watch up to 160 cameras from 5 DVR Card based DVR’s, NVR’s, or Compact DVR’s. Installing 1 of these at each location, and not having to drop some coin on replacing the cameras yet is a great way to transition to the 21st century. When you are ready, GeoVision makes some great IP cameras, though when you can still get decent 550+ line analog cameras for 1/2 the price, and you are on a budget, this product is a God send. When you are ready to go digital, we’ll take you there.

EyeSpyPro Hosted Video Recording Service Gives You Peace Of Mind

    Monday, January 3rd, 2011

We have had a lot of interest in the EyeSpyPro.com Hosted Video Recording service, and wanted to announce a change to the plans. This is a video surveillance solution that does not require large investments in recording equipment. What we do is host the video storage for you, so you don’t have to make an investment in a network video recorder. This service is ideal for homeowners or real estate investors who want to keep an eye on their property.

A hosted video service is also great for any business, as you can use this as a 1-2 camera back-up service that will record and store video offsite, so even if a thief steals your video recording equipment, we have them on film far away, and you can access it on any Internet browser, iPhone, Blackberry, or Droid phone. Or if you have multiple locations, like sandwich shops, restaurants, gift shops, etc, you can put 1-4 cameras at each location, allowing you to access live video from any camera, as well as record all events.

Check out some of the footage caught by an HVR Enabled Axis 207W at Wayne’s during their Tuesday night league.

So we changed the service to a storage based solution, where you can pick your storage levels, depending on your needs. A 1GB package is $15.95 per month, and can record about 10 hours of straight video, enough to cover most shifts or hours of operation, or on motion detection, will record up to 7 days with 5% motion, or about 1.25 hours per day of video. After that, the oldest videos are deleted to make room for the current videos.

You can be notified if motion occurs by email, as well if there is a power failure. You can also choose 7GB, 14GB, or 28GB, depending on your needs. You will save thousands on not having to buy an NVR, and let us worry about upgrades, back-ups, and other maintenance.

All you need is a qualified AXIS network camera that is listed here, or if you have CCTV cameras, you can use an AXIS video encoder, and get good quality results. If the camera is already PoE, all you need is a PoE switch to power the camera, and record the video. If not, you can get a PoE splitter/injector to also power the camera, otherwise you need to power it with electricity.

There are 41 different AXIS IP cameras to choose from, and 3 video encoders for legacy CCTV cameras. You can also take one of our wired hidden cameras, and hook it to a video encoder, for your covert, hidden camera applications. The software is super easy to use, and we will have our portal ready next week. You just log in to access the live feeds, and you can take a snapshot, or manually record 20 second clips.

If you have a PTZ IP camera, you can zoom in/out with your mouse scroll wheel, or click to the right side to change the view to the right. You need about 400kbs per camera of upload speed, and for more info, give us a call @ 1-877-3-EYESPY (1-877-339-3779) for more information or to get started.

Speco Hybrid DVRs Can Add IP Cameras And Salvage Your CCTV Camera Investment

    Friday, June 18th, 2010

If you have a aging CCTV camera video surveillance system that you invested too much money into, and find yourself drooling over the new Network IP Cameras, then there is hope. Speco announces the Speco H.264 16 Camera Hybrid Pentaplex Digital Video Recorder Family with Network DDNS Video Server, which is a new line of hybrid DVR’s that will let you hook up analog CCTV and network ip cameras.

If you have CCTV cameras that are working for you, you have 3 options if you need to expand:

    • You can leave it alone and add more CCTV cameras, running more cable, though you can go to a video balun set up to make that easy.
    • You can invest in a Hybrid DVR that will allow you to hook up analog and digital cameras.
    • You can buy encoders that will convert the feed to digital, making the camera a network camera.

We will cover the Hybrid DVR in this post, and cover the encoder idea in another post. A hybrid DVR is a great way to transition into the digital world, as it’s still a fully functional DVR that you are use to, it will also let you expand with network cameras, which you can’t do with your current DVR.
