    Big Brother’s Surveillance Web

    Thursday, November 29th, 2007

There is a disturbing trend of military style equipment being redirected to law enforcement in the USA, and every day you hear about another piece of this Orwellian puzzle falling into place. It also just occurred to me that they did a great job of naming the Department of Homeland Security; George Orwell could not have come up with a more innocent name for an agency that appears to want to control every aspect of our lives.

Now I remember being taught that WE created our Government to protect our God given rights, not to tell us what are rights are. Little by little, cut by cut, our rights to privacy are being eroded. Do you care? I sure do.

Did you know the Miami police are testing unmanned drones by Honeywell? These are little 14 pound units that can fly up to 10,000 feet in altitude, or fly through a building. The police say they will not be used for routine patrols, and only for SWAT and emergency use. Come on, who are you kidding. How many times have we heard that, only to find out the opposite is happening?

One quote from the article in particular was disturbing: “The unmanned aircraft will be used during SWAT team and tactical operations, especially when officers need video of a heavily armed suspect”. I hear there is technology available that will see through buildings. I can only imagine this technology will be used to perform sweeps of neighborhoods looking for weapons when the Government starts disarming the populace.

You should know that the Bush administration wants more spying on us Citizens. This is not the sign of a Government that serves the People, it’s a Government that wants to destroy the People and I am wondering when enough of us are going to do something about it? I’ll give you the news; will you do anything with it?

That article quotes a statement issued by the Dept. of Homeland Security that states: “…officials envision “more robust access” not only to imagery but also to “the collection, analysis and production skills and capabilities of the intelligence community.” Are you frightened yet?

The article goes on to say” Other nonvisual capabilities can be provided by aircraft-based sensors, which include ground-penetrating radar and highly sensitive detectors that can sense electromagnetic activity, radioactivity or traces of chemicals, military experts said. Such radar can be used to find objects hidden in buildings or bunkers.” What hidden objects would they be referring to?

Now we find out Houston Police are also testing a high altitude drone that will be used for, “mobility” or traffic issues, evacuations during storms, homeland security, search and rescue, and also “tactical.” She admitted that could include covert police actions and she said she was not ruling out someday using the drones for writing traffic tickets.”

Hmmm, so they could use this to monitor roads and if excess speed is detected, they will mail us a ticket? This is getting out of hand, as I thought this was the land of the free….

Then I read about cameras that are beings set up on police cars that will sweep an entire 8 lane road and record every license plate, so I guess after a while, if you are not where you should be, based on your daily habits, you will probably be pulled over ala Minority Report. They can detect you speeding and notify an officer. Thank the Remington Elsag company for that.

That’s enough for now, I am pretty disgusted…

    Look: They Are Watching You!

    Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I just read about a new movie called “Look,” which is a glimpse of how security cameras have become so common, no matter where we go, we are on film. Not sure if they are using actual footage, or their own, though the film shows that our private lives are really public, and we are usually recorded up to 200x per day when we go about our daily routines!

    Smile! You’re on Hidden Camera

Shot entirely through the view of public surveillance cameras, a new film gives viewers a glimpse into just how public our private lives have become. What ‘Look’ reveals may shock you.

By Jessica Bennett | Newsweek Web Exclusive
Nov 20, 2007 | Updated: 3:44 p.m. ET Nov 20, 2007With more than 30 million surveillance cameras in this country, the average American is caught on tape more than 200 times a day: on the street, at the ATM, in department stores, even in public restrooms. Yet the notion that we’re being watched—at all times—has yet to resonate in the public perception. Most people don’t know that hidden cameras are legal in dressing rooms and bathrooms in most states, nor that workplaces can get special permission to install them without ever having to reveal their whereabouts. In some places store employees can even make reels from security cameras and post them on YouTube.

I like interesting films like this, and I am looking forward to this movie, because cameras are being abused by governments as a way to raise revenue and obtain information on every aspect of someone’s lives. It’s a good idea to make sure you know if you are being filmed or not.

Recently, Kid Rock found a hidden camera in his dressing room, of all people! Wonder why they wanted to look at him undressing? Anyway, there are many hidden camera detectors on the market these days, and the most advanced is the Pro Extreme Wireless Camera Hunter.

    ProExtreme Wireless Camera Hunter

The Pro Extreme Wireless Camera Hunter is the only hidden camera/bug detector, wireless mic detector that will allow you to sweep a room, and if any hidden wireless cameras are present, no matter if their frequency range is from 900MHz ~ 2.52GHz, the Pro Extreme will show you an actual image of what the video camera is recording, so you can zoom right in and find the camera.

How cool is that? If only Kid Rock had such a device when he arrived at his next show. He would pull out his Pro Extreme Wireless Camera Hunter and quickly walk around his dressing room. He would know right away if any wireless hidden cameras were present, thus saving himself a lot of embarrassment with another bootleg video on YouTube.

Know when you are being filmed, pick up a ProExtreme Wireless Camera hunter today!

The Easiest Surveillance Camera You Will Ever Install

    Monday, November 26th, 2007

If you are looking for a simple, cost effective security system, you have a lot of choices. You can go with wired or wireless cameras, though you have to install them, which would require mounting the cameras, and either run video cable, or set up the wireless receivers. Either way, it will take time to get set up. With the SecureView Flood Light Camera, all of that is history.

The SecureView Flood Light Camera is one of the easiest ways to install a camera system to monitor the front or back of your house. How hard is it to install? How about screwing in a light bulb? Can you do that? If so, you can be monitoring your house in minutes.

    SecureView Flood Light

Just screw in the SecureView Flood Light Camera into any outdoor lighting fixture; then plug the companion decoder into the wall outlet, then plug the included RCA connector from the decoder into a TV or VCR and you are in business.

The color camera will record anything in front of it, and it has six built in infrared illuminators that will light up the night. Now you don’t have to open your door to see who is there, you will see them in plain view.

The SecureView Flood Light Camera is fully self contained, produces good quality video, and can be moved to any flood light on your property.

Don’t wait until someone has broke into your home. Pick one up today and start watching your property tonight.

    Keep your eyes opened…

Hidden Camera Statues And Your Privacy

    Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Good posting here by Alfred Massaquoi, which has a lot of good lectures on privacy, and has a link to the First Amenedment Handbook.

“The laws of 13 states expressly prohibit the unauthorized installation or use of cameras in private places. In Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, South Dakota and Utah, installation or use of any device for photographing, observing or overhearing events or sounds in a private place without the permission of the people photographed or observed is against the law. A private place is one where a person may reasonably expect to be safe from unauthorized surveillance.

Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, South Dakota and Utah also prohibit trespassing on private property to conduct surveillance of people there. In most of these states, unauthorized installation or use of a hidden camera, or trespassing to install or use one, is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine. In Maine, the privacy violation is a felony. In Michigan, unauthorized installation or use of a hidden camera is a felony, punishable by a $2,000 fine and up to two years in prison.7

Several states have laws prohibiting the use of hidden cameras in only certain circumstances, such as in locker rooms or restrooms, or for the purpose of viewing a person in a state of partial or full nudity.”

This is good info to know, and if you feel a hidden camera is recording you, you can easily check this out with a hidden camera finder.

The High Frequency Micro Bug Detector will detect analog or digital high frequency bugs, cameras, or recording devices between 50 MHz to 6.0 GHz. This will capture most hidden bugs and let you find them.

The High Frequency Micro Bug Detector digital also detects bluetooth, WLAN, Wi-Fi, cellular phone GPS, and digital spread spectrum wireless products. It fits in your pocket, is ultra compact, and gets the job done. It is specially designed for easy and simple use with no complex installation or professional knowledge required. Pick up one today on our website.

Tweaking Copper Thieves Caught By High-Tech Surveillance

    Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Tweakers have copper fever and are stealing copper in ever large amounts, from stripping the copper wiring in abandoned or even inhabited buildings, to stealing huge copper valves from the water inlets for farmers to water their field. Anything made from copper is fair game.

TITUSVILLE, FL — A man caught on camera stealing copper wiring from a business in Titusville was taken into custody by police Saturday morning, who were alerted to the theft by the firm’s owner who watched the incident unfold from her home.

For the past several weeks, thieves have been breaking into the electrical contracting company off Grissom Parkway looking for copper wire to steal.

The owner, who did not want to give her name or the name of the business, decided to do something about the situation and set up a a high-tech surveillance system so she could monitor activity at her business from her home. The system paid off early Saturday when she saw a man enter the property and start to steal copper wire.

The woman called 911 and responding Titusville police officers found a man hiding under a truck, along with some of the wire. The man was taken into custody, charged with grand theft and burglary.”

And from that same part of the country:

Suspected Copper Thief Caught On Roof Of Mexican Restaurant

In Orlando, a man was arrested stealing copper wire off the top of a Mexican food restaurant!

We have an option for you to monitor your property. It looks like an innocent electrical box, however, it is a self contained video surveillance system that will catch any tweaker stealing anything from your property.

They are also stealing large copper valves and anything they can drag away and sell to the scrap dealer.

The SecureShot Pro-Series Memo-Cam Electrical Box Surveillance Camera will catch them in the act and give you a video recording of the punks that you can use to prosecute them in court, or at least identify them.

The SecureShot Pro-Series Memo-Cam Surveillance Cameras offer a great price to performance ratio and secretly tucks away a fully self contained recording studio inside everyday items. This working Electrical Box surveillance camera has a built in is a motion detection mini camera, and a digital video recorder (DVR) that will record any activity that moves in front of it to removable SD cards.

The metal weatherproof electrical box surveillance system measures 10″ x 7 1/2″ X 4.” Hi-Resolution video images are recorded on a small SD card whenever motion is detected, and it can support up to a 4GB SD card. Rechargeable batteries operate the unit for 4 full days (96 hours) on a single charge. System includes extra set of batteries and charger, so batteries can be quickly swapped. Wi-Fi to the Rescue

    Monday, November 19th, 2007

A few of the people who were burned out by the recent fires in Southern California were able to monitor their property with some Hi-Tech help.

    Laguna Beach, CA

In a particularly timely announcement, Tropos Networks this month announced the deployment of a Wi-Fi “Fire Watch” system in Laguna Beach, California. The company has been working with the city of Laguna Beach for a while to support video surveillance of local beaches when lifeguards weren’t available, but the fire watch system is new.

A major fire in the city in 1993 destroyed more than 390 homes and burned over 16,000 acres, prompting Laguna Beach residents to look for an effective early warning system. With a federal grant from the Bureau of Land Management, the city has worked with Tropos to deploy a wireless video surveillance system covering 20 square miles around Laguna Beach.

We found a great line of Internet based cameras, the Secure IP cameras that are able to be monitored over the Internet. They use the electrical lines in your house to carry the video feed from the camera, to your computer, where you can record the video, or monitor it over the Internet, from anywhere in the world, 24/7. Buy using the wires in your house, you do not have to string video cable across your house or business.

    SecureIP Outdoor Camera

The Secure IP Cameras are hidden in an everyday item, or there is a weatherproof outside version, that you can set up in strategic places around your property. Use one to monitor the front of your house, another to monitor the back. Put one inside the front room of the home or business, and one in a hallway or back room. Four to six cameras can cover your entire property and give you peace of mind when you are away.

Check out the Secure IP Cameras today before you are a victim of fire, robbery, or vandalism.

Nurse Caught Stealing Pills After Family Set Up Secret Video Camera

    Monday, November 12th, 2007

Abuse of senior citizens is on the rise, and it comes in all forms. Verbal or physical abuse, theft of jewelry, drugs, or money happens all the time.

A Suffield visiting nurse charged with stealing anxiety medication from an elderly patient was caught on videotape by the patient’s family, according to an affidavit released from Enfield Superior Court.

The nurse, Melissa Wilson, 41, of 915 North Stone St. was charged on Oct. 16 with intentional cruelty to a person, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of two counts each of possession of a controlled substance and sixth-degree larceny.
She posted a $5,000 nonsurety bond and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 29.

Wilson is accused of stealing nine prescription pills of Ativan, a drug used to manage anxiety, on two occasions from Pauline Davidson, 73, of Enfield in incidents that occurred on or about May and June, according to the affidavit. Davidson’s son, Herb Davidson, 55, said Friday that his mother had been sick, but her illness didn’t warrant the amount of pills he found missing at one point.

In May he set up a hidden video camera to ensure his mother was receiving proper care, he said.

He later discovered on the tape that Wilson had slipped pills into her pocket, he said. He showed the video to police, who arrested her last month.

Public Outrage Leads To First Fall In Number Of Speed-Camera Fines

    Thursday, November 8th, 2007

This is from England, and could be a good thing regarding red light cameras, which should be ruled as unconstitutional. They are all over Southern California, and while they might help save lives, it’s gone to raising revenue, plain and simple & several people have sued cities and won.

    Times Online UK
“The number of drivers caught by speed cameras has fallen for the first time, according to government figures which reveal that widespread complaints about excessive enforcement have finally forced a retreat by police and local authorities.

All of the main types of motoring offence, including illegal parking and driving without insurance or an MoT certificate, have declined. For the first time in more than a decade drivers are less likely to be given a penalty than in the previous year.

The RAC Foundation said that the figures, published by the Ministry of Justice and relating to 2005, marked a big change in the relationship between motorists and the enforcement authorities. Edmund King, the executive director of the foundation, said: “This shows the outcry by millions of drivers has finally paid off and forced councils and police to exercise more discretion. There is no doubt that enforcement was getting out of hand, particularly with the use of speed cameras. “The authorities have finally realised that showing a small degree of flexibility can be more effective than huge numbers of fines, even though they are making less money.”

There were 438 offences per 1,000 licensed vehicles in 2005, down from 466 in 2004. The total number of motoring offences fell by 450,000 to 13 million. The number of speed-camera fines had been increasing since 1995 at the rate of about 200,000 a year, but in 2005 it fell by 40,000, from 1.91 million to 1.87 million.

Richard Brunstrom, the former head of road policing at the Association of Chief Police Officers, had predicted four years ago that the number of camera fines would carry on growing until it reached three million a year. But the number is likely to have continued falling in 2006 because the policy that allowed police to keep a proportion of the fines to pay for more cameras ended in April of that year.

The number of drivers being automatically disqualified for receiving 12 penalty points within three years also fell to the lowest level for more than a decade, down 2,000 to 29,000. However, it is unclear whether this was because drivers slowed down or because they persuaded someone to take the points for them.

Parking fines fell sharply in 2005 after several years of substantial year-on-year increases. The number reduced from 8.5 to 8.2 million. As with speed camera fines, parking penalties are likely to continue to fall because the Government issued guidelines this year that prevent local authorities from setting targets for the issuing of tickets by private parking companies.

Police focused more attention in 2005 on more serious motoring offences, with a 5 per cent increase in the number of breath tests to 607,000 and a 35 per cent rise in careless driving prosecutions to 186,000. Penalties for using mobile phones at the wheel also rose in 2005, up 53,000 to 126,800, but this was because forces had taken time to begin penalising the new offence.

The figures revealed a discrepancy in the number of breath tests being carried out by different forces, despite a guideline that states every driver involved in a collision must be tested. West Midlands Police carried out only 270 tests per 100,000 population compared with 3,200 in North Wales. The forces with the highest rates of positive tests per 100,000 population were South Yorkshire, Thames Valley, Dorset, South Wales, Hampshire and Nottinghamshire.”

If they can fight them in England, we can fight them here! Here is to the death of Red Light Cameras!
